Social 518 Posts | definetly true and so sad in same time :(
i miss that time :( |
Officer 1204 Posts | Some of the things he says are right, but a lot of it is very subjective. Also, I think it's impossible to compare expansions in this way now. Players are way better at their classes these days. I reckon that if we had another set of bosses like TBC days, we'd probably clear the entire content in a matter of a 3 or 4 months. |
Social 325 Posts | Agree with Hog ...
A lot of the old content seemed hard and challenging at the point. But this was due to lack of abilities and toys (Hi Mages, just spamming frost bolt 24/7 on Raggy... BOOORING!)
Also, everything was new and exciting, I bet if a raid 100% like BWL was released today, people would bitch and moan about it, cause it would be too easy.
A lot of the reasons people are remember Vanilla / TBC as soooo great, is cause of the nostalgia... I wonder how many remember the countless of hours of tideous farming, just to get attuned. That you needed rep and keys just to enter TBC Heroics (Ok, I'll admit that TBC heroics, were infact... Heroic, and tons of fun)
Their were a lot of shitty stuff back then, just as their is today :) |
Social 518 Posts | I'm french :P and i have to not agree lol ;)
i made my haz on vanilla after i left us server. i dinged 60 2-3 days before the release of tbc and jumped straight in da wagon at start of tbc.
TBC was hard for many reasons :
_ quests were damn long and even now, if u run loremaster, u'll feel it. _ 5 men heroic were long (2 hours at least) and mandatories _ to do any karazhan, u had to be attuned and it was the only 10 men raid. _ the frozen shadowave set was good till u received a full tier 5 _ if u had to do SSC-TK, it was 25 men raids (more organisation) _ SSC - TK were part of attunement to enter Hyjal Summit _ Hyjal Summit was part of attunement to enter BT _ u were stuck in BT if u did not have shadow resistance gear _ preparations for raid were heavy. _ aggro had a meaning.
Bref, short long story, hes right cause there was so many checkpoint to pass, it wasnt simply entering in a raid. Moreover, u were obliged to run 25 men. They started to change it in wotlk, screwed it in cata, burned it in mop. Short term tactics had a good side for common peoples. The biggest issue is the long term strategy. Expansion are planned years ahead and it brings money kinda like the cherry on the cake.If the content is rushed so fast, it's because they need to release and sell expansions.
To really be honest, they should bring back attunement and resistance gear. It would clearly slowdown progression between raid tier but the best would be to realease 25 men raid tier only. That would resurect 25 men guilds, tho i'm not sure people would have strenght to resurect 25 men guilds.
Consequence on guild were pretty heavy. We were 3/4 shadow priests in icon, been interviewed by pol and gurex for 2hours on group chat, stayed 2 month and half on trials lol (special thanks to hoggy) :) At that time, hoggy was driving a pink pally called Hoganum and his toon almost knew how to play hoggy, gringo was still on top of meters. Us, shadow priests, were mana pumps. Dots, dps to regenerate mana, dots, dps to regenerate mana.
In conclusion, if u were not in a steady guild, u were screwed. If ur guild was 10 men raiding, u were screwed and stuck in kara. If u were not attuned, u were screwed to enter in guild. If u were not preping, u were screwed in raid. If u had no ts or vent, u were screwed. If you didnt know bigwigs or dbm, u were screwed.
So many things screwing up 80% of players that time, that was real ! many many many peeps did hate TBC. Tho, the journey was long and everyone were admiring/dreaming of T6.
Long journey, many complaints, long term goal and a nice dream. short journey, many complaints, everyone is king, noone dreams anymore.

Social 236 Posts | I have to agree with the french here in some points... Bring back attunements, I loved the way they where, bunch of quests lead to 5man heroics wich you just didnt force throu, I think we wiped in shadow lab for 3-4weeks before killing last boss..
people had to work to get things done back then not as it is now heres your new raid instance go kill please..
Not the way I prefer, but then agian im only 1 out of 9million people playing why saticfu one when you can saticfy millions... im sure blizz would have had attunments still in game if the community where saying so but they arent, SADLY... |
Social 325 Posts | I'll have to admit, the old Heroics of TBC, I would love that difficulty back, cause they truly were ... heroic.
But long drawn out quests for attunement, to enter a raid, no thanks... :) To each his own! |
Officer 1204 Posts | I tell you why I like attunements... The moment you enter a raid instance felt epic. You actually felt like you'd earned your entry into this huge environment. I'd love them to bring it back, perhaps even build it into a guild achievement so that you don't need to attune new people all the time (which was the problem with the old way)
Also, make the last boss unavailable in LFR, same way that Ra-den is unavailable in normal mode. |
Social 777 Posts | To be honest its not just the easy/normal/hard modes of raids that's killed a lot of WoW for raiders back from TBC and Vanilla times, its the dumbing down of everything.
Unfortunately its the day of the fast-food-MMO player who doesn't want to travel to dungeons to do them, who wants to see all the bosses NOW, who wants to skip and get boosted through content, who wants free epics....bla bla bla
I have to agree with a lot thats been said here, and although things like attunements where a pain in the ass when it came to certain points (like trying to recruit someone new, or the week you clear 1 place you still have to go back and clear it for anyone who wasnt i the 1st raid), they were an important part in everyone's character progression.
Where is the character progression now? You can level by herbing, You can skip an entire tier and come back, pick up free handout loots and do a few easy mode LFRs and then you are back doing the current stuff.
You could stand in the main cities back then and see who was where with progression, gear stood out and defined a players progression level, ppl had stuff to aim for, to say "OMG i want that sword", now there is none of that. Everyone is the same, same level, same gear (if not transmog'd)... we are all sheep now.
People had a reason to feel proud of what they had done.
