Just thought I'd make a little guide on how to analyse yourself on World of Logs. We log just about every raid we do and post them online so everyone can see.

Getting Started
Calendar
This is the starting point and shows the calendar of all raids - http://www.worldoflogs.com/guilds/108263/

Ranked Players
To get ranked, you must perform in the top 200 of all reports that are uploaded to WoL for your class and spec.

Two ways to get to this. Firstly form the calendar link, you can see all players that are ranked by navigating to the menu, hover over guild name and click "Ranked Players"

Alternatively, you can look at an individual raid, on the menu bar hover over "Dashboard" and then select "Ranked Players". I find this link quite useful as it shows your the percentages of each ranking, even if you didn't make it. A percentage of 100% means you have reached the same level as the 200th player on the current set of ranks.

Analyse Yourself
What Next?
In reality, we don't care about ranks, we care about whether a boss dies or not, so how can you figure out if you are playing well? There are various things you can look at and it pretty much depends on the boss you are looking at as to what you need to analyse. I'm going to pick on last night's raid as an example. I'm doing this because there are some interesting things we can see but as we killed 7 bosses and had a really good raid, hopefully nobody will be too offended by being named here!

Narrowing Down The Report
So first of all, we don't want to look at an entire night's raid, we only want to focus on a single pull, so we first navigate to the raid from the calendar. Now we go to the menu, hover over "Full Report" and select which range we want to see. I'm going to focus on the kill of Kor'kron Dark Shaman which lasted 5m29s.

Damage Done
So, go to the menu, hover over "Dashboard" and click on "Damage Done". You will now see the damage done by all players for the kill. As a DPS, this is your start point. I don't know how other classes work really, but I'll let you know how I analyse myself. First, I will click on my name which will show me everything that I did or that happened to me. Next I click on "Damage by spell" to see what damage I did. Things I look for are uptime on my two main DoTs. So you can see that Shadow Word: Pain is 95.1% and Vampiric Touch is 94.6%, both pretty good. Some other things of interest are:
* My legendary cloak was 6.3% of my overall damage (very nice!)
* On "Buffs gained" tab I can see that Twist of Fate is up for 58.6% of the fight which makes it an awesome talent for this boss.
* My UVLS trinket procced only 5 times (Perfect Aim buff) and clicking on the # next to Perfect Aim I can see that most of the procs were near the end of the fight.

But overall DPS isn't always a good measure. For example, I could get amazing DPS on Horridon heroic if I only ever hit the boss and ignored adds. So for this fight, I want to see who was hitting the Foul Slime adds. So, from the menu bar, hover over "Damage Done", go to "Analyse" then select "Damage Done". Make sure "by source" is selected on the top left and in the "Target" dropdown, change it to "Foul Slime" and press "Go". This will now show you who was damaging the slimes. What does it show? Well it shows that Rassler was slacking badly as ranged should be killing them as a number one priority! However, it also looks a little like I can take them on my own with Wheiler's help, perhaps something to think about in the future.

Damage Taken
So, how about damage taken by players? Do the same as above but select "Damage Taken" instead. So you can instantly see that the tanks are taking the most damage - this is a good thing! But what I want to know is:

Who is getting hit by the ashen wall? Well, on the left, make sure "by target" is selected then change "Source" to "Ash Elemental" then press go.You can now see who is getting hit by the wall and will note that Cow sucks at avoiding them, in fact, it's what killed him!

However, if you change source to Foul Slimes, you will see that we were pretty good at avoiding them, well done guys!

That's enough for now. If you have any other questions, please ask and I'll try to explain.

So I was pretty pissed of with myself after last nights raid. A couple of stupid things like jumping into wrong pit lol, which I'm not too worried about because it has comedy value :) but my DPS wasn't very good either.

So I went to analyse last nights logs http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/u2mv0py070ofl1pk/analyze/dd/source/?enc=bosses&boss=71889 and see if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I'm surprised to see logs show me as 3rd DPS, that's not how it looked in meters last night I don't think. Are logs wrong? or meters? Or is something to do with the 2 separate groups?

Is it just that Hog & Fibre are brilliant? Are SPriests & Arcane mages OP atm?

Also looked at damage taken, I'm at 3rd bottom. So I'm actually doing all right? Help, I'm confused lol

I'm pretty sure that the two groups are too far apart to get accurate logs from both sides. So we are waiting for Suker (nudge nudge!!) to upload his version which will likely show Toothy being much higher for example. Your link was also for ALL fights and not just the kill try, it's worth remembering that on non-kills, the fight is often ruined for some reason. For example, damage taken makes no sense as when a wipe was called, we went round and opened all the boxes for fun!

So in short, I wouldn't use this fight to analyse stuff like that.

However, you are right that I am brilliant. Fibre isn't, it's just that mages are OP.

Wouldn't know if I agree with you being brilliant, but the reason Fibre is so high, is definatly his class being OP, and not him being skilled!

I take it that it was our group that uploaded the log then? As I was pretty far behind suker on my meters

OK, well if we look at logs for kill only, we got Fibre & Hog on 15.5%, me gringo & Wheiler on 11. Elders 10 & Toothy 8
BTW if it's picking up that much damage in the logs, then surely it's picking up all?

So that tells me groups are setup wrong for a start.
Should really be Fibre, Toothy, Elders, Wheiler in 1 group (or some other variation on this but not having Hog & Fibre in group with Wheiler)

As for damage taken, I'm about middle so I guess that's ok

turns out my loggerhead addon is working again, and so I have uploaded the log from the other side

edit: Dunno why, but my log seems to show everyone doing more damage, not sure if something is not being picked up on your log for some reason Hog

http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/2iusoydkkfbal2v9/rankinfo/

edit2: Looks like Hog lost his rank already, but Wheiler got ranked from my log and me & Fibre got higher ;P

edit3: actually... its all a bit confusing, from 2 seperate logs being uploaded we have 3 sets of results shown for that fight, 1 from Hog's log and 2 from mine, all with different results. So not sure what the hell is going on there ;P

edit4: Ah... seems it shows the fight where we wiped on the last mob as a kill too, which aint a problem as we had better results on the actual kill anyhow

WoL only records your best ranking for each fight, so in this case I am ranked in my log but Fibre, Wheiler and yourself get it in your log.

This fight is shit for analysing on WoL!!

I think WoL tried to determine when the boss is finished by using the energy bar, when it sees over 200, it's a kill. However, while we did get the kill earlier, that last mob died after the timer expired. Very confusing!

Spoils look like pretty terrible fight to log/analyze right in general. People getting out of log range and sides getting or not getting more pandaren buffs skews DPS picture too much.

Agree, if you want to analyse your personal DPS, use Iron Juggernaut or Malkorok. Even Norushen is impossible to analyse unless every person uploads their own log as you won't get logs from both inside AND outside.
